Rich River Golf Club – Improving Waste Management through Bin Trim

Sustainability is a key focus at Rich River Golf Club, with several initiatives already in place. Recycling bins have been installed across all 36 holes to encourage responsible waste disposal by golfers. In addition, the club operates a golf ball recycling program, repurposing recovered balls into pathways and walkways, reducing waste while creating a practical on-site resource.

Despite these efforts, the club identified organic waste as a major opportunity for improvement. A significant volume of food and green waste was still being sent to landfill, increasing disposal costs and environmental impact. To address this, Rich River Golf Club engaged with the Bin Trim program, which supports businesses to review and improve their waste management practices.

Participation in the Bin Trim program provided the club with guidance and practical solutions to better manage their waste streams. As part of this process, Rich River Golf Club is considering investment in equipment to help streamline waste handling, improve separation of recyclable materials, and make waste processing safer and more efficient for staff.

The improved systems will enable the club to divert more organic waste from landfill, reduce contamination of recycling, and lower ongoing waste disposal costs. Importantly, these changes also align with the club’s broader sustainability goals and commitment to protecting the natural environment of the Murray region.

By working with the Bin Trim program, Rich River Golf Club is strengthening its environmental leadership while demonstrating how practical waste management improvements can deliver both operational and environmental benefits.
